The past few weeks have changed my life.
Sometimes I wonder how a single moment can be enough to erase a future that once felt so certain. Plans that had made sense for years suddenly disappeared. What used to be we became me again. And as much as it hurts, there's also something surprisingly light about it.
I think this year has taught me that nothing is guaranteed. Not our health. Not love. Not time.
A few months ago, I was terrified that life was slipping away from me. Today, I'm terrified of not living it deeply enough.
Maybe that's why I keep catching myself dreaming about freedom lately. Not the kind of freedom that means running away from something, but the kind that simply means going. Leaving without a perfect plan. Without a destination. Without constantly worrying about what's waiting tomorrow.
I want to see the world. I want to board planes without knowing exactly what they'll bring me. I want to watch sunrises in places whose names I can't even pronounce yet. I want to sit in tiny cafés, laughing with people whose language I barely understand. I want to collect stories instead of things.
And yes… maybe I want to wander through unfamiliar streets in the middle of the night, headphones on, dancing with people I've only known for an hour, and maybe even kiss a stranger simply because, for one brief moment, it feels like being completely alive.
Not because I'm desperately searching for love. But because I've stopped being afraid of life.
I want to feel that excitement again. That feeling that anything is possible. That every single day could become an adventure if I just allow it to. Because I think there's a little girl somewhere out there waiting for me.
The girl who could spend hours making up stories. Who found animals hidden in the clouds. Who ran barefoot through fields without caring if her feet got dirty. Who laughed as loudly as she wanted without wondering whether she was too much. Who woke up excited simply because a new day had begun. Somewhere along the way, she grew quieter.
Buried beneath responsibility, expectations, illness, fears about the future, and the exhausting need to always be the strong one. But I don't think she ever disappeared. I think she's simply been waiting for me to come back for her.
Maybe everything had to fall apart before I could finally understand that happiness isn't about checking every box on a perfectly planned life. Maybe happiness is waking up in the morning and asking yourself, What do I want to experience today? and then giving yourself permission to do exactly that.
I want to be amazed again. To lose myself in sunsets. To spend hours sitting by a lake. To sing at the top of my lungs while driving. To leave in the middle of the night just because I feel like it. To discover places I've never seen before. To meet people who touch my heart for a moment and then continue on with their own lives.
Not everyone has to stay to become a beautiful memory. I don't have to control everything anymore. I don't have to question every decision ten times. I don't have to be the reasonable one all the time.
I just want to live. Not someday. Now.
And maybe one day I'll look back at this chapter and realize that what felt like the end of one story was actually the beginning of my own.
Not perfect. Not planned. But finally free.
